Mutagenicity Assessment of Airborne Particles in Mexico City
نویسندگان
چکیده
-The Ames’s TA98 strain of Salmonella typhimurium with and without mammalian metabolic activation was used to detect the mutagenic activity of organic chemicals associated with airborne particles. Two kinds of particles: total suspended (TSP) and those particles with an aerodynamic diameter of 10 pm or smaller (PMIO) were collected in glass fiber filters using high-volume samplers during the dry season (Dec,ember 1$189-March 1990) in the Metropolitan Area of Mexico City at five stations of the air quality network belonging to the Ministry of Social Development. Although the highest mass concentrations of particles were obtained from the Northeastern and Southeastern areas, the largest frequency of mutations was found Downtown which indicated that vehicle exhaust was an important source. Contrary to what was expected, the mutagenic responses were higher for PM10 than for TSP samples. On the other h&d, the microsome activation increased significantly the mutagenic activity of the complex mixture, which hinted at the presence of higher amounts of indirect (or promutagens) than direct mutagens both for TSP and PMlO. Key word index: Airborne particles, mutagenicity, Mexico City, PMlO, TSP, Ames test.

Investigating of relationship between biological and non-biological airborne particles in the internal section of two educational hospitals in Qazvin city
Background: Hospital-acquired infections, are the most important consequence in exposure to bioaerosols in which affect health of staffs and clients. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between fungal bioaerosols and particulate matter in two educational hospitals in Qazvin city in 2017. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study, was performed in 12 of two hospitals indoor...
متن کاملAerosol spectral absorption in the Mexico City area: results from airborne measurements during MILAGRO/INTEX B
This paper presents estimates of the spectral solar absorption due to atmospheric aerosols during the 2006 MILAGRO/INTEX-B (Megacity Initiative-Local And Global Research Observations/Phase B of the Intercontinental Chemical Transport Experiment) field campaign. The aerosol absorption was derived from measurements of the spectral solar radiation and the spectral aerosol optical depth made on the...
متن کاملHuman cell mutagens in respirable airborne particles from the northeastern United States. 2. Quantification of mutagens and other organic compounds.
Few reports have characterized mutagenic compounds in respirable airborne particles (<2.5 micrometers in diameter; PM2.5) collected at different sites on a regional scale (hundreds of km). Previously, we reported differences in the human (h1A1v2) cell mutagenicity of whole and fractionated organic extracts of PM2.5 samples collected in Boston, MA, Rochester, NY, and Quabbin Reservoir, a rural s...
متن کاملHealth Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals: Cu, Cd, Pb, Ni and Hg, in Catfish Ariopsis Felis in Southern Mexico
Background: Metal pollution is a problem in many parts of the world. These metals can be harmful when they exceed the recommended limits. By analyzing metal concentrations in living organisms, it is possible to deduce the bioavailability and the level of environmental contamination for specific metals in an ecosystem. The aim of this study was to determine the heavy metals copper, cadmium, lead...
متن کاملBiologic effects induced in vitro by PM10 from three different zones of Mexico City.
Exposure to urban airborne particles is associated with an increase in morbidity and mortality. There is little experimental evidence of the mechanisms involved and the role of particle composition. We assessed cytotoxicity (crystal violet assay), apoptosis [terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) or annexin V assay], DNA breakage (comet assay), and product...
